The Italian ski resort of Alta Badia, nestling in the dolomites in South Tyrol consists of 6 charming villages and offers discerning skiers wonderful skiing for all levels and abilities coupled with gastronomic delights.

Alta Badia sits between 1,400 and 2,700 metres above sea level which means good skiing conditions for most of the season which is from the end of November to the end of April. Alta Badia ski holidays offers its visitors access to 130 km of downhill skiing accessed by 52 lifts. The resort is well suited to all abilities of skiers with the runs comprising of 53.5% blue (easy) runs, 40% red (medium) runs and 6.5% black (hard) runs and there is plenty to challenge each level. Corvara is one of the 6 villages and is best suited to beginners. There is a good Ski School there as well as a Ski Kindergarten for the children. There are rarely any queues for the modern chair and ski lifts, which means you can cover most of the slopes quite quickly. Snowboarding is also popular in Alta Badia and there is a park by the Ciampi slope and lessons are available at the ski school.

About the village

The area of South Tyrol boasts an incredible 16 Michelin Stars and is this year trialling a new concept entitled "a taste for skiing" whereby sophisticated gourmet food that has been produced by some of the area's Michelin starred chefs, is dished up in some of Alta Badia's mountain huts. The accommodation in Alta Badia is varied and ranges from B&B, to apartment, to campsites. If you want a good hotel in Alta Badia, then Colfosco is a good location with a choice of 3 and 4 star properties. Corvara has the liveliest of the apres ski facilities with a choice of bars and discos in the village. The cocktails are definitely worth trying at the famous Murin bar by Hotel La Perla. The shopping is good and there is a wide choice of specialist shops selling localised products, arts and craft shops, as well as boutiques and sports shops.
