The centre of the Podcetrtek Municipality and the province Srednje Sotelsko. On a hill above the town perches Podcetrtek Castle which was first mentioned as long ago as the 13th century. The area obtained the rights of the borough in the 15th century. Since that time the judicial and borough days, which were connected with the name of the area, have taken place on Thursdays.
