Flims Laax Falera is an area made up of the three resorts of Laax, Falera and Flims and is located in the Graubeunden region of Switzerland nestled high above the Rhine Valley. Better still is the fact that it is just 90 minutes away from Zurich airport which makes Flims Laax Falera ski holidays a popular choice for many people.
It is mainly geared towards intermediate skiers with some challenging long runs from interconnected mountains. However, its combined 137 miles of slopes provides interest for all levels and there are a total of 18 black runs, 40 red and 45 blue throughout the area. The slopes range in height from 1,100 metres to 3,018 metres. This resort is also popular amongst snowboarders and there are a total of 6 Snow and Terrain Parks. High capacity lifts and a couple of efficient gondolas mean there are rarely any queues and indeed, the area is often fairly quiet during weekdays as it is relatively unknown outside of the Swiss and German markets.
Don't let local terminology put you off visiting this resort. The local name for "peak" is "crap" and all the mountain tops are called crap and a top apres ski bar is unfortunately called "the Crap Bar". It's also worth noting that they have introduced new trail maps with totally different colours denoting the level of each slope when compared to the usual colours that are widely recognised.
About the Village:
The three resorts are close to each other and free shuttle buses run between them. Flims is the largest village where the main lift is to be found and also has the most shops, restaurants and bars. Laax is a quieter, smaller access village whilst Falera is a more traditional alpine community geared towards families. There is a wide choice of accommodation in the Flims Laax Falera area to cover most budgets and includes bed and breakfast or self catering. If you prefer to use a Hotel, Flims, Laax, and Falera each have a good selection ranging from 3 star to 5 star. Thr shopping mainly consists of sports shops and small specialist shops selling arts and crafts.
