Interlaken

The Jungfrau region in Switzerland embraces the all year round resort of Interlaken together with 3 other ski resorts, notably Grindelwald, Murren and Wengen which are all conencted by a train service which starts at Interlaken and ends at Jungfraujach. As far as looks go, it doesn't get better than this and Jungfrau ski holidays are always very popular. The scenery is spectacular with a backdrop of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains reaching a height of almost 4000 metres.

The Jungfrau region offers skiers of all abilities 195 km of runs served by 45 lifts although intermediate levels are catered for more with runs comprised of 28% for beginners, 57% intermediate and 15% advanced. Wengen has one of the best beginnner slopes in Europe, whilst intermediates favour the long Stepfi run at Grindelwald. Advanced skiers can put their skills to the test by skiing at break neck speed above Wengen on the world's longest world cup racecourse trying out the black speed runs on Schilthorn and Schiltgrat. There is also an opportunity to venture off piste with the Bergsteigerzentrum, which is a famous world class ski guide service. Cross country lovers can take advantage of a 2 km track in Murren and 35 km of trails near Grindelwald.

About the village

For those on a budget and seeking acommodation in Jungfrau, Interlaken is always very popular since it offers cheaper lodgings for those people who don't mind a 30 minute bus or train ride to the slopes. The cost of a hotel in the Jungfrau region varies considerably and cosmopolitan Grindelelwald may cost a bit more but there is a wide variety of excellent bars and restaurants and plenty of apres ski activities taking place.

Murren and Wengen are on the opposite side of the valley and are more traditional and peaceful with a gorious alpine presence. Murren holds the coveted title of "prettiest resort in Switzerland". All visitors must experience the thrill of pulling into the rail station at Jungfraujach which is Europe's highest rail station and has views of three countries.
